The swan river is stunning and none more so than after the sun has just set and early evening settles over the river. There's a still calm with hardly a breath of wind. I love how the boats bunk in for the night, awaiting possible attention in the morning, their only companions being birds looking for a place to roost. This scene is what inspired this painting. The paper used for this is a Fabriaono Artistico Soft Press 300gsm, the first time using it, and after finishing the painting a faint grid of regular dots appeared, and most obviously on the treeline area, not sure why but very interesting nonetheless. There are always unexpected surprises with watercolour, whether it be the paint mixes, the brushes or paper you're using. I swear it has a mind of it's own!
